Being happy doesnt mean that everything is perfect.

It means that you have decided to look beyond the imperfections...

A weight issue (or lack of)

As you may know from my previous blogs Ellie has decreased her milk intake and not really increased her food intake. Not a massive isse, but we were monitoring her weight over the last 4 weeks to make sure she isnt loosing weight....

Yesterday we had another weigh in... verdict... weight loss again. Not heaps, only 80grams, but when she has lost weight every week, 4 weeks in a row then it becomes a problem.

We always knew Ellie would be little. I specifically remember when we received Ellies genetic testing results, the geneticist said that Ellie could eat PURE mars bar and never be overweight.
Im ok with that... I just dont like it when she looses weight, as she doesnt have much to loose.

I have had a method over the last few weeks to help her gain weight. This was to add full fat double cream to everything she ate... this obviously didnt help

I know have a appointment with her peadiatrician next week Wednesday to discuss her weight loss. What this entails, I do not know... I hope he has some options, to help with weight gain. And I hope they are options that do not involve NG tube or a PEG. I am hoping we have other options.

In the mean time, I will keep pouring calorie packed cream over all her food.

Many people would love to be able to eat what they want and not have to worry about putting on weight... Oh how they would be envious of Ellie

  1. Sorry to hear about Ellie losing more weight :-(

I really do hope Paed can come up with some other options other than NG or PEG too!

  2. Hi friend! So sad to hear the Ellie has lost weight again. That is the worst thing to hear when WHS mamas cling to every ounce that is added to our babies' weight each visit to the doctor.

BOO! I too am praying that Ellie's high caloric diet pays off and she does not need the G tube, etc. I know it is always a tough decision to make - though sometimes the best!

Hmmm - I wish I had some ideas but - I know how stubborn our girls can be!

Praying for a little eating miracle this week. Love ya!

  3. I am thinking about you guys and praying hard. We have been there. I pray that none of our babies ever need a feeding tube, but we were not able to avoid it. I pray that you do not have to make that same decision. Hopefully the higher calorie foods will help. With Riley, we only give her foods that pack the biggest punch, like yogurt with tahini, avocado with butter and oil, chicken. We add extra calories to everything, like omega 3 oils, brewer's yeast, wheat germ, just to add more calories without adding more volume. I hope Ellie pulls through this little phase and starts eating like a champ once again.

  4. I am sorry to hear about Ellie's weight loss, keep up all your good work. I know how hard it can be sometimes when Dylan doesn't want to eat - frustrating, or when he eats like a cow and doesn't gain an oz. I will be praying for her. :)

  5. I am so sorry to hear about Ellie's battle with gaining weight. We are kind of on the same ship right now-- although Kaylee hasn't lost weight (yet), she isn't gaining as she was and needs to. We are trying Duocal right now to hopefully add the calories. I am amazed by you moms who are able to figure out "real food" solutions to adding calories. I am not much of a cook, so I am already panicking about how much I am going to have to learn (like preparing dinners besides take-out)as Kaylee gets bigger. Best of luck-- Ellie is in my prayers. :-)
